The Maid at The Mill…

Wedding belle(s)…

On Saturday 6 April, Priston Jubilee Morris danced at Carla and Luke’s wedding reception held at Priston Mill.

Our arrival was supposed to be a surprise, but the bells (as usual) gave us away as we arrived. We were, however, welcomed to the party and our first couple of dances received rapturous applause.

With the party in full flow the Squire suggested that we would teach them a dance, which resulted in the side being mobbed by volunteers as bells and wavers were shared out between the crowd.

With the advent of autumn, Priston Jubilee Morris is back in the hall at Priston Village for the practice season, following a fantastic 35th anniversary year of dance.

This is the time when we learn new dances, sharpen up on old ones and start to make decisions about where we’d like to perform in the coming year. But more importantly, it’s a great time for new people to join us, dancers and/or musicians, and we would like to encourage anyone to come along and have a go, including families looking for an activity they can enjoy together*.

Morris dancing is a traditional form of English dance that is a good way to keep fit, meet some very interesting people and have fun! However, the survival of most Morris teams, of which Priston is no different, is with local people taking an interest and getting involved. Read More »
